Nine gallons of inaJt therefore ground in the ccrni* mon manner are equal to eight gallons, or a ' Winchester bushel, of whole malt; and as in the foregoing instances only eight gallons of the ground malt .were used^ the real quantity of malt was 9-of a bushel. When malt is very finely ground the difference is not quite so much: this difference was esti-^ mated from a comparison of the different weights of equal measures.
